From the Foreign Languages Department, we are happy to announce The Big Challenge! This annual contest is suited for all ESO students, whatever the year, and you can win lots of prizes only by taking the test!

Now, you only have to tell your English teacher you want to participate – he/she’ll sign you up. Then, go to the site www.thebigchallenge.com to get practising. You can do it anywhere using your smartphone.

There will be a test in May. Go for it! You might get wonderful prizes!

A visit to the Málaga Airport and the Aviation Museum

Last month, 4th ESO C and D students had the chance to spend the morning at the Airport and the Aviation Museum.
Some of them pretended to be journalists for a while and interviewed some travellers in both English and French. 
Another group visited the Aviation Museum, where they took a walk along the engineering history, and even got on the first commercial plane that ever arrived in Málaga.

Do you know what idioms are in English? They are fixed expressions that have a figurative, or sometimes literal, meaning. Similar to our Spanish refranes.

The story of the Jack O’Lantern

Jack, it seems, was a bad man. He kept all his money to himself. He didn’t help people for all of his life.

When Jack died, he wasn't allowed into Heaven because he was such a miser: a person who didn’t share his money.

It seems that Jack also had played tricks on the Devil, who didn’t let him into hell, either.

Jack was stuck. He had to walk the earth, holding a lantern, until Judgment Day.

This is the story handed down by the Irish people who went to America in the 1800s. They carved their turnips into the face of "Jack-of-the-lantern" to remind themselves what happened to people who were misers. And in the fall, pumpkins are much easier to find than turnips.

So that's why Americans today carve their pumpkins into Jack O’Lanterns.

German visitors at San José

In the afternoon of Wednesday 3rd June, San José School welcomed a group of 7 students and 2 teachers from Bürgerwiese High School, in Dresden, Germany.

They are being hosted by some 3rd ESO students and are staying with us for 3 days, when they will be able to enjoy the fun and interesting activities planned by the English Department:

- In our school, they are going to use the new Media Library (BIM), and to see the two wonderful exhibitions currently held here - Mírate en mí and the robot exhibition.

- They are going to visit Nerja and Frigiliana, and the centre of Málaga, to get a taste of our weather, culture and food.
